Heinrich Wolfgang Ludwig Dohrn (16 June 1838, Braunschweig – 1 October 1913, Florence) was a German zoologist, entomologist and malacologist.

Heinrich Dohrn’s family was from Pomerania (now in Poland). His father was the entomologist Carl August Dohrn (1806–1892) and his brother Anton Dohrn (1840–1909), founder of the short-lived marine station at Messina and then Stazione Zoologica. He studied atStettin getting his diploma 1858. He collected natural history specimens in Príncipe in 1865. He was the founder of the museum at Stettin to hold the collections of the naturalists of the town, members of the Stettin Entomological Society but this soon became an art museum. He opened the doors of the museum to the public in 1913. He engaged in 1904, Adolf Furtwängler (1853–1907), professor ofArchaeology at the University of Munich to reconstruct Greek marbles found as fragments.

Born at Stettin (Szczecin, now Poland) Carl August was the son of Heinrich Dohrn, who was a wine and spice merchant, and had made the family fortune by trading in sugar. This wealth allowed Carl August to devote himself to his various hobbies; travelling, folk music and insects.

Although interested in all orders of insects Dohrn specialised in Coleoptera. His first published paper was in the Entomologische Zeitung for 1845 but he was an active entomologist long before this, since he had acted as Secretary to the Stettin Entomological Society from its foundation in 1839 and edited its journal. He was elected president of the society in 1843 retiring from the post in 1887.During this time he held together the rather fractious German entomologists and the society flourished. Dohrn had many contacts including Alexander Henry Haliday, with whom he wrote a paper on the Linnaean Diptera (See Talk:Carl August Dohrn) and the London entomologists. He was a personal friend of Henry Tibbats Stainton with whom he stayed in England.

A frequent visitor to London he was accompanied by the LepidopteristPhilipp Christoph Zeller in 1852, by Carl Henrik Boheman in 1854 and by Hermann August Hagen in 1857. He spent many summers in Italy, in Lucca with Haliday and in Turin with Maximilian Spinola. Dohrn was elected a fellow of the Entomological Society of London in 1855 and an honorary member in 1855. A classicist he was fluent in many European languages. His Coleoptera collection was very extensive and just prior to his death, at 86, he had received upwards of 1,000 beetles from Sumatra.

When she was five, the family moved to London for one year, later moving to Chicago in 1963. In 1966, her mother was one of four child advocates that created the Erikson Institute. The Institute was established to provide collective knowledge in child re-development for teachers and other professionals working with young children.

As a child she spoke Persian and French. One of her great-grandfathers was Jewish.

Jarrett graduated from Northfield Mount Hermon in 1974. She earned a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford University in 1978, and aJuris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of Michigan Law School in 1981. In 1983 Jarrett married William Robert Jarrett, son of Chicago Sun-Times reporter Vernon Jarrett. She attributes her switch from a private to a public career to their daughter Laura’s birth and her own desire to do something that would make the daughter proud.

To one reporter’s e-mailed question about her divorce, she replied, “Married in 1983, separated in 1987, and divorced in 1988. Enough said.” In a Vogue profile, she further explained “We grew up together. We were friends since childhood. In a sense, he was the boy next door. More interesting Subud connections to Hawaii:

Early Life Honolulu, Hawaii 1920–1940

Cooke was born in 1920 into a wealthy family in Honolulu, Hawaii, the youngest of the eight children of Clarence Hyde Cooke and Lily Love and is a nephew of zoologist Charles Montague Cooke Jr, grandson of arts philanthropist Anna Rice Cooke, great-grandson of New England missionaries Amos Starr Cooke and Juliette Montague, and great-great-great grandson of American military officer in the Revolutionary war and politician Josiah (Joseph) Platt Cooke.

According to Brion Gysin, Cooke was in touch with the Kahunas of Hawaii from an early age. In later life, Cooke knew Kahuna David “Big Daddy” Bray (1889–1968), and it is likely that this connection with Bray went back to his childhood. Cooke developed a lifelong interest in the Tarot at the age of nine when he mistakenly bought a Tarot deck instead of regular playing cards. John travelled to mainland USA (particularly to San Francisco) many times with his mother before her death in 1933.

John’s sister Alice married Democrat politician and lawyer Roger Kent in 1930. They lived at Kentfield, California in Marin County of San Francisco, and after Lily’s death, Alice took on a mothering role for the young John. John continued to travel regularly from Honolulu to San Francisco through the 1930s. At 19, Cooke employed the Ouija board at Kentfield with Alice Kent (who was also mystically inclined). He would continue to use the Ouija board for at least the next thirty years….

John and Mary Cooke sent word to L. Ron Hubbard in London to come and cure John. Hubbard couldn’t come but sent his right-hand man “Lucky” Jim Skelton, an Australian Scientologist the Cookes had previously met in London. Gysin had also met Skelton in London. Skelton met with some success in reducing the paralysis, but complained to Hubbard that the method was not fully effective. Hubbard countered that Skelton was not performing the method correctly, which led Skelton to split from Hubbard and Scientology. In addition, Lucky Jim fell in love with both John and Mary and lived together with them.
ooke was looking for a cure for his paralysis. He was told by his friend John G Bennett, a leading Gurdjieff follower, about an Indonesian religious leader, Pak Muhammed Subuh Sumohadiwidjojo, and the religious group Subud. Cooke would likely have heard of the apparently miraculous cancer cure of Hollywood actress Eva Bartok after she was “opened” in the Subud method in May 1957; the case was widely reported in the press in November 1957. Cooke agreed to finance Subuh’s stopover in the US and, with his sister Alice Kent, greeted Subuh on his arrival in San Francisco 22 March 1958. At around this time, Cooke moved to the Carmel highlands and his home became the Carmel headquarters for Subud.

Next, Nelson, Chapin, Cook etc.. :

Chip graduated from Olney Friends School, a Quaker school in Barnesville, Ohio. He attended Wilmington College, where he played soccer during his freshman year, and later Hawaii Pacific University. Chip came to Honolulu, the birthplace of his mother Helen Geracimos Chapin, in 1978. The family moved here to take care of his Tutu, Pota Geracimos Jardine….

Taking after relatives on both sides of his family, including the Hawaiian Greeks, Chip also fell in love with the game of bridge. He played for many years, attaining the level of Gold Life Master with over 4,000 points. Many of the bridge players became his friends, and he loved the tournaments, both here and on the Mainland. Among Chip’s bridge colleagues were Stanley and Madelyn Dunham. One day he came home and said. “This lady I play bridge with said her grandson was just elected Senator from Illinois.” Of course, that Senator is now President Barack Obama.

subud international cultural organisation – 2014
In September 1996 my late wife and I moved from Saint Paul back to our beloved Honolulu, where we had helped establish the Subud group in 1967. By this time there were a lot more interreligious activities happening at the grassroots level. I soon became part of the steering committee of and an occasional presenter at Honolulu’s Interfaith Open Table. From this participation I got a year-long consulting gig to help Honolulu become the venue for one of the Parliament of the World’s Religions’ periodic meetings. From all this local activity plus occasional pieces I wrote for the local newspapers—they once also did an article on me as a Jewish-Christian fasting with Muslims for Ramadan, a kind of one-man interfaith representative—I became known in the state as someone committed to interreligious understanding and collaboration. As a result, Dr. Saleem Ahmed, a Pakistani Muslim living in Honolulu and a strong spokesman for moderate Islam, recruited me to edit his book Beyond Veil and Holy War. Later I became a co-founder of an interreligious organization Saleem developed and now leads: The All-Believers Network (www.allbelievers.net). Among other things, Saleem and “Belnet’s” board are pushing to get the State of Hawaii to consider itself the Interfaith Capital of the World. To that end, Belnet will be holding an international “One Reality” Conference in September 2012, which the World Subud Association is considering co-sponsoring……..

“Meet The Parents….of alias Barack Obama. Black Sunni Muslim father and White Lebanese Christian mother. Born in the ME, raised in Indonesia, became BHO II in 1982.” Dr. Ron J. Polland

The “Mal-Val” youtube video at the link was posted by FReeper Polarik (Dr. Ron Polland) in August of 2011 and while morphing the image of a woman named “Val” into an image of Obama, he insinuates that “Val” is Obama’s mom. One year later this youtube has only 1,150 views.

In July 2012, two FReepers associated the woman, “Val,” in Polarik’s Youtube with Lebanese actress Valerie Sarruf and have posted multiple images of her at various ages on FR eligibility threads. I am opening this thread to invite discussion of and links to any evidence that either supports or refutes a claim that Valerie Sarruf is Barack Obama’s mother, with or without Malcolm X being his father.

Where could Malcolm X and Valerie Sarruf have been in 1960 when baby Barry would have been conceived? Is there any evidence that Sarruf could have been pregnant and delivered a baby in 1961? In what country could the baby have been delivered? How and when could the alleged Mal-Val baby have been inserted into the identity and life narrative of the person we have come to know as Barack Hussein Obama?

Alice’s uncle Henry Faurot played an integral part in the Silverthorne family fortunes that would shape Alice’s inheritance. As well as marrying Catherine Silverthorne, he was a partner in the Silverthorne businesses. Through his work with PD Armour he identified the opportunity that resulted in the Western Felt Works, the industry that provided serious money to the Silverthorne brothers and set them up in an industry that would survive the changes happening in the early twentieth century.

But most importantly, it was Henry Faurot who provided the introduction between the nouveau riches William Edward Silverthorne, his brother in law, and Julia Belle Faurot, the beautiful and delicate grand-daughter of PD Armour, lion of the Chicago social register. In 1892 William Silverthorne made a familial coup with his marriage to Julia, PD Armour’s grand-daughter through his only daughter Marietta and her meatpacker husband Emery D Chapin.

    Marriages and children
She has been married four times.

She married Richard Harris in 1957, with whom she had three sons (Jared Harris, Jamie Harris, and Damian Harris). They divorced in 1969. Sir Rex Harrison was her second husband from 1971 to 1975, who had two adult sons (Noel Harrison and Carey Harrison). Peter Michael Aitken and Rees-Williams wed in 1980 and divorced in 1985. He has two sons, (James and Jason Aitken) and is the cousin of her next husband, Jonathan. Jonathan Aitken is her current husband, whom she married on 25 June 2003 and who has three daughters and one son,[2] (Alexandra Aitken, Victoria Aitken, Petrina Khashoggi, and William Aitken)

Adnan Khashoggi (Arabic: عدنان خاشقجي‎, IPA: [ʕædˈnæːn xæːˈʃuqdʒiː]; born 25 July 1935 in Mecca) is a Saudi Arabian business man. He is also noted for his participation in high society in both the Western and Arabic-speaking worlds, and for his involvement in the Iran–Contra and Lockheed bribery scandals. At a peak net worth of up to $40 billion USD in the early 1980s, he was considered one of the richest men in the world.

Khashoggi was born in Mecca, the son of Muhammad Khashoggi, who was King Abdul Aziz Al Saud’s personal doctor. His family is of Turkish[4] and Syrian ancestry. His father was a medical doctor of Turkish descent. Adnan Khashoggi’s sister Samira Khashoggi Fayed married Mohammed Al-Fayed and was the mother of Dodi Fayed.Another sister, Soheir Khashoggi, is a well-known Arab writer (Mirage, Nadia’s Song, Mosaic).

Khashoggi was educated at Victoria College in Alexandria, Egypt, and the American universities California State University, Chico, Ohio State, and Stanford. Khashoggi left his studies in order to seek his fortune in business.

Khashoggi headed a company called Triad Holding Company, which among other things built the Triad Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, which later went bankrupt. He was famed as an arms dealer, brokering deals between US firms and the Saudi government, most actively in the 1960s and 1970s. In the documentary series The Mayfair Set, Saudi author Said Aburish states that one of Adnan’s first weapons deals was providing David Stirling with weapons for a covert mission in Yemen during the Aden Emergency in 1963. Among his overseas clients were defense contractors Lockheed Corporation (now Lockheed Martin Corporation), Raytheon, Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation and Northrop Corporation (which have now merged into Northrop Grumman).

Between 1970 and 1975, Lockheed paid Khashoggi $106 million in commissions. His commissions started at 2.5% + and eventually rose to as much as 15%. Khashoggi “became for all practical purposes a marketing arm of Lockheed. Adnan would provide not only an entree but strategy, constant advice, and analysis,” according to Max Helzel, then vice president of Lockheed’s international marketing. Khashoggi along with Kamal Adham was one of the founders of the gold company Barrick Gold Corporation, established in 1983.For 25 years, Bob Shaheen served as Khashoggi’s chief of staff and executive assistant.

A shrewd businessman, he covered his financial tracks by establishing front companies in Switzerland and Liechtenstein to handle his commissions as well as developing contacts with notables such as CIA officers James H. Critchfield and Kim Roosevelt and US businessman Bebe Rebozo, a close associate of former US President Richard Nixon.

Kathleen Annie Pannonica Rothschild was born in December 1913, in London, the youngest daughter of Charles Rothschild and his wife, Hungarian baroness Rozsika Edle von Wertheimstein, daughter of Baron Alfred von Wertheimstein of Transylvania. She was born into a branch of the wealthiest family in the world at the time. Her paternal grandfather was Baron Nathan Rothschild. She grew up in Waddesdon Manor, among other family houses. The name “Pannonica” (nicknamed “Nica”) derives from Eastern Europe’s Pannonian plain. Her friend Thelonious Monk reported that she was named after a species of butterfly her father had discovered, although her great-niece has found that the source of the name is a rare kind of moth. She was a niece of Walter Rothschild, the 2nd Baron Rothschild, and her brother Victor Rothschild became the 3rd Baron Rothschild. (According to thepeerage.com, she was granted the rank of the daughter of a baron on 15 March 1938. Her elder sister Dame Miriam Rothschild was a distinguished scientist and zoologist.

In 1935 she married French diplomat Baron Jules de Koenigswarter, later a Free French hero. They lived together in a château in north-west France. She worked for Charles de Gaulle during World War II. The couple separated in 1951 and she moved to New York City, permanently renting a suite at the Hotel Stanhope on Fifth Avenue, and leaving behind five children. As a result of their separation, Koenigswarter was disinherited by her family, the Rothschilds. The couple eventually divorced in 1956.

Mrs. Armour died on February 6, 1953 at the age of 83. She had been ill for a long time and died in her home at 253 N. Green Bay Road in Lake Forest. As a very young girl, she had married Mr. Armour in 1891 and came to be one of Chicago’s most famous hostesses.

Their country home of 1,000 acres became famous for her prize winning roses and horses. The estate was elaborately landscaped and contained two 10 acres lakes. Mr. Armour died in 1927 and his estate became bankrupt, except for some shares of stock that the bank declared worthless. That “worthless stock” was found to be very valuable and restored wealth to Mrs. Armour.

In 1936, Mrs. Armour bought the 18th century, Georgian mansion where she spent the last years of her life. The house was filled with valuable art objects. Her collection of historic shoes was given to the Art Institute in Chicago. (Wonder if they still have them?) Some of the shoes reached back to Queen Anne and “others had danced a minuet at the court of Louis XIV.”

Mrs. Armour was also a good business person. She owned a large interest in the Chicago Tunnel Terminal corporation that is the pedestrian tunnel under the streets of Chicago. (I know about the tunnel, but have never used it.) She sold her interest in 1932. One year later, she purchased the northeast corner of State and Madison, famous as “the world’s busiest corner.” It was once the site of Mandel Brothers Department Store. Does the Amour family still own that corner?

Mrs. Armour was survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lolita Armour Mitchell Wilder of Santa Barbara, California and two grandchildren John J. Mitchell, Jr. and Lolita Mitchell. Services were held in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Lake Forest with burial in Graceland cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.

A Texas Oil Dynasty: The Family Tree of Cullen Davis
James L. Hoover, son of Jacob, was born in Coopersdale on 10 October 1860. In an interview in 1896, he stated that the Hoovers were of German descent, and that his father was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in 1832. However, both the 1870 and 1880 census schedules indicate he was born ca. 1829. Jacob Hoover, said his son, left Bedford County early in life and came to Cambria County to accept the position of manager of the general store of the Cambria Furnace Company. When the company discontinued business, Jacob worked for several years as a heater for at the Cambria Ironworks. Eventually, he relocated to New Castle, in Lawrence County. Cornelia’s maiden name is given as Goudy,9 which agrees with the 1880 census listing a Goudy sister-in-law in Jacob Hoover’s household.

William S. and Cora (Hoover) Davis had been married six months on 31 May 1889, the day of the tragic Johnstown Flood, which claimed the lives of at least 2,200 people.10 “They moved to Braddock before the flood,” says the couple’s grandson, Cullen Davis. “My understanding is that they were not in Johnstown when the dam broke.” Davis believes his paternal grandfather’s full name was WilliamSeldon Davis.11

Kenneth William Davis — Cullen Davis’s father — was born on 25 November 1895 in Morrellville, Pennsylvania. For a man destined to become an oil mogul, he was born in the right place. “The petroleum industry traces its origins to Titusville, a two mile drive up the road,” notes journalist and author Mike Cochran.12 Ken Davis, whose educational background did not extend beyond the sixth grade, found his way to Texas as a World War I pilot.13 It was in Fort Worth that he met and married Alice Bound in 1921….
