He was related to Commodores Oliver Hazard Perry and Matthew Calbraith Perry and had a cousin, John Rodgers, in the Navy’s Aerial Corps, learning to fly the Navy’s newly purchased Wright airplane.

In March 1911, he visited John at the Wright Company factory and flying school in Dayton, Ohio and became interested in aviation. He received 90 minutes of flying lessons from Orville Wright, and on August 7, 1911, he took his official flying examination at Huffman Prairie and became the 49th aviator licensed to fly by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale. He was one of the first civilians to purchase a Wright Flyer.

Publisher William Randolph Hearst offered the Hearst prize, US$50,000 to the first aviator to fly coast to coast, in either direction, in less than 30 days from start to finish. Rodgers had J. Ogden Armour, of Armour and Company, sponsor the flight, and in return he named the plane, a Wright Model EX designed for exhibition flights, after Armour’s grape soft drink Vin Fiz.

Rodgers left from Sheepshead Bay, New York, on September 17, 1911, at 4:30 pm. He reached Chicago on October 9, 1911. It was decided to avoid the Rocky Mountains, he would take a southerly route, flying south through the midwest until reaching Texas. He turned west after reaching San Antonio. On November 5, 1911, he landed at Tournament Park in Pasadena, California, at 4:04 pm in front of 20,000 people. He had missed the prize deadline by 19 days. On December 10, 1911, he landed in Long Beach, California, and taxied his plane into the Pacific Ocean. He had carried the first transcontinental U.S. Mail pouch. The trip required 70 stops, and he paid the Wright brothers’ technician, Charlie Taylor, $70 a week to be his mechanic. Taylor followed the flight by train and performed maintenance for the next day’s flight. The next transcontinental flight was made by Robert G. Fowler.

Jacqueline Lee Bouvier was born in Southampton, New York, to Wall Street stockbroker John Vernou Bouvier III (also known as “Black Jack Bouvier”) and Janet Norton Lee. Jacqueline’s younger sister Caroline Lee—later known as Lee—was born in 1933. The Bouviers divorced in 1940. Janet Bouvier later married Standard Oil heir Hugh D. Auchincloss, Jr. in 1942 and had two more children: Janet and James Auchincloss.

Jacqueline Bouvier in 1935

Her mother had Irish ancestry and her father’s ancestry included French, Scottish, and English. Her maternal great-grandfather emigrated from Cork, Ireland, and later became the Superintendent of the New York City Public Schools. Michel Bouvier, Jacqueline’s paternal great-great-grandfather, was born in France and was a contemporary of Joseph Bonaparte and Stephen Girard. He was a Philadelphia-based cabinetmaker, carpenter, merchant, and real estate speculator. Michel’s wife, Louise Vernou, was the daughter of John Vernou, a French émigré tobacconist, and Elizabeth Clifford Lindsay, an American-born woman. Jacqueline’s grandfather, John Vernou Bouvier Jr., fabricated a more noble ancestry for his family in his vanity family history book, Our Forebears. Recent scholarship and the research done by Jacqueline’s cousin John H. Davis in his book, The Bouviers: Portrait of an American Family have disproved most of these fantasy lineages.

Bouvier spent her early years in New York City and East Hampton, New York, at the Bouvier family estate, “Lasata” Following their parents’ divorce, the Bouvier sisters divided their time between their mother’s homes in McLean, Virginia and Newport, Rhode Island, and their father’s homes in New York City and Long Island. Bouvier attended the Chapin School in New York City.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niihau

Niʻihau or Niihau (pron.: /ˈnh/; Hawaiian: [ˈniʔiˈhɔu]) is the seventh largest of the inhabited Hawaiian Islands in the U.S. state of Hawaiʻi, having an area of 69.5 square miles (180 km2). Niʻihau lies 17.5 miles (15.2 nmi; 28.2 km) southwest of Kauaʻi across the Kaulakahi Channel. Several intermittent playa lakes provide wetland habitats for the Hawaiian Coot, the Black-winged Stilt, and the Hawaiian Duck. The island is designated as critical habitat for Brighamia insignis, an endemic and endangered species of Hawaiian lobelioid. The United States Census Bureau defines Niʻihau and the neighboring island and State Seabird Sanctuary of Lehua as Census Tract 410 of Kauai County, Hawaii. Its 2000 census population was 160; As of June 2009, the population was 130.

Elizabeth Sinclair purchased Niʻihau in 1864 from the Kingdom of Hawaii and private ownership passed on to her descendants, the Robinson family. During World War II, the island was the site of the Niʻihau Incident: A Japanese navy fighter pilot crashed on the island and terrorized its residents for a week after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The people of Niʻihau are known for their gemlike lei pūpū (shell lei) craftsmanship, and speak Hawaiʻian as a primary language. The island is generally off-limits to all but relatives of the island’s owners, U.S. Navy personnel, government officials and invited guests, giving it the nickname “The Forbidden Isle.” Beginning in 1987, a limited number of supervised activity tours and hunting safaris have opened to tourists. The island is currently managed by Bruce and Keith Robinson.

Barbara’s father ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Pierce

Marvin Pierce was born in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania to Scott Pierce and Mabel Marvin. Marvin was a 1916 graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. His ancestor, an early New England colonist, was also a descendant of Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States. At Miami University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, he was nicknamed “Monk” and was a stand-out athlete in football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He was inducted into Miami’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1972.

Pierce’s first marriage was to Pauline Robinson who was born in 1896 to Ohio Supreme Court justice, James E. Robinson and died on 23 September 1949. They had four children together:

W magazine once described Pauline Robinson as “beautiful, fabulous, critical, and meddling” and “a former beauty from Ohio with extravagant tastes”. On 23 September 1949, Pauline was killed in an automobile accident in Harrison, Westchester County, New York, when Marvin, who was driving the car, lost control as he reached over to stop a cup of hot coffee from sliding across the seat onto his wife. The car crashed into a tree on Purchase St, killing Pauline instantly at 8:12 a.m. She was 53 years old.

Their third child Barbara Pierce, later became the wife of the 41st President of the United States, George H.W. Bush and mother of the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush.

Pierce’s second marriage (June 1952) was to Willa Gray Martin, an artist and Associated Press reporter.

Known as Bunny, she is the eldest child of Gerard Barnes Lambert, Sr., a president of Gillette Safety Razor Co. and a founder of Warner-Lambert (Warner-Lambert is now part of Pfizer, following a 2000 merger). One of her grandfathers, chemist Jordan Lambert, invented Listerine, although it was her father who commercialized it. Her mother was the former Rachel Lowe. She had two siblings: Gerard Barnes Lambert, Jr. (1912–1947; married Elsa Conover, former wife of Angus D. Mackintosh); and Lily Cary Lambert (1914–2006; married William Wilson Fleming and John Gilman McCarthy).

Mellon’s parents divorced in 1933, and in 1934, her mother re-married her former brother-in-law, Dr. Malvern Bryan Clopton, the widower of Gerard Lambert, Sr.’s sister, Lily Lambert Walker. In 1936, Gerard Lambert, Sr. also was re-married, to Grace Cleveland Lansing Mull, the former wife of John B. Mull and a daughter of Henry Livingston Lansing.

Forbes Magazine has been unable to put any sort of definitive number on Mellon’s net worth since much of her fortune is tied up in trusts, but it is apparent that she is both extraordinarily wealthy and very private. In 2011, it was revealed that she had lost US$5.75M to investment adviser and convicted Ponzi scheme operator Ken Starr. Her attorney, Alex Forger, said: “She’s well off, but assets are not liquid.

Next, in many places around the world:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diana,_Princess_of_Wales

Diana was born at 7:45 PM on 1 July 1961, in Sandringham, Norfolk. She was the fourth of five children of Viscount and Viscountess Althorp (née Frances Roche, later Shand Kydd). The Spencers are one of Britain’s oldest and most important families, closely allied with the Royal Family for several generations. The Spencers were hoping for a boy to carry on the family line, and no name was chosen for a week, until they settled on Diana Frances, after Diana Russell, Duchess of Bedford, her distant relative who was also known as “Lady Diana Spencer” before marriage and who was also a prospective Princess of Wales, and her mother. Diana was baptised at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Sandringham. Diana had three siblings: Sarah, Jane, and Charles. Diana also had an infant brother, John, who died only a year before she was born. The desire for an heir added strain to the Spencers’ marriage, and Lady Althorp was reportedly sent to Harley Street clinics in London to determine the cause of the “problem” The experience was described as “humiliating” by Diana’s younger brother, Charles: “It was a dreadful time for my parents and probably the root of their divorce because I don’t think they ever got over it. Diana grew up in Park House, which was situated near to the Sandringham estate.

Diana was eight years old when her parents divorced after her mother had an affair with Peter Shand Kydd. In Morton’s book, he describes Diana’s remembrance of Lord Althorp loading suitcases in the car and Lady Althorp crunching across the gravel forecourt and driving away through the gates of Park House. Diana lived with her mother in London during her parents’ separation, but during the Christmas holidays, Lord Althorp did not allow his ex-wife to return to London along with Diana. Shortly afterwards, Lord Althorp eventually won custody of Diana with support from his former mother-in-law, Ruth Roche, Baroness Fermoy. Diana was first educated at Riddlesworth Hall near Diss, Norfolk, and later attended boarding school at The New School at West Heath, in Sevenoaks, Kent. In 1973, Lord Althorp began a relationship with Raine, Countess of Dartmouth, the only daughter of Alexander McCorquodale and Barbara Cartland. Diana became known as Lady Diana when her father inherited the title of Earl Spencer on 9 June 1975. Lady Dartmouth, unpopular with Diana, married Lord Spencer at Caxton Hall, London on 14 July 1976. Diana was often noted for her shyness while growing up, but she did take an interest in both music and dancing. She also had a great interest in children. After attending finishing school at the Institut Alpin Videmanette in Switzerland, she moved to London.

Odd Fellowship, unlike many other organizations, makes no special effort to attract ‘name’ members. Ours is a warm, personal type of affiliation that doesn’t rely on ‘rubbing elbows’ with the famous to give us satisfaction.” Below are some of the notable men and women who were members of the fraternity:

Dian Fossey.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dian_Fossey

Dian Fossey (/dˈæn ˈfɒsi/; January 16, 1932 – c. December 27, 1985) was an American zoologist who undertook an extensive study of gorilla groups over a period of 18 years. She studied them daily in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially encouraged to work there by famous anthropologist Louis Leakey. She was murdered in 1985; the case remains open.

Called one of the foremost primatologists in the world while she was alive, Fossey, along with Jane Goodall and Birutė Galdikas, was part of the so-called Leakey’s Angels, a group of three prominent researchers on primates (Fossey on gorillas; Goodall on chimpanzees; and Galdikas on orangutans) sent by anthropologist Louis Leakey to study great apes in their natural environments.

Dian Fossey was born in San Francisco, California to George E. Fossey III, an insurance agent, and Kathryn “Kitty” (Kidd) Fossey, a fashion model. Her father was a US Navy sailor. Her parents divorced when Dian was aged 6. Her mother remarried the following year, to businessman Richard Price. Her father tried to keep in contact, but her mother discouraged it, and all contact was subsequently lost. Dian’s stepfather, Richard Price, never took in Dian as his own child. He would not allow Dian to sit at the dining room table with him or Dian’s mother during dinner meals.] A man adhering to strict discipline, Richard Price offered Dian little to no emotional support. Struggling with personal insecurity, Dian turned to animals as a way to gain acceptance.

Fossey became friends with Mary White “Gaynee” Henry, secretary to the chief administrator at the hospital and wife of one of the doctors, Michael J. Henry. Fossey turned down an offer to join the couple on an African tour due to lack of finances but in 1963 she borrowed $8,000 (one year’s salary), and went on a seven-week visit to Africa.

In September 1963, she arrived in Nairobi, Kenya. While there, she met actor William Holden, owner of Treetops Hotel who introduced her to her safari guide, John Alexander. Alexander became her guide for the next seven weeks through Kenya, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zimbabwe. Alexander’s route included visits to Tsavo, Africa’s largest national park, the saline lake of Manyara, famous for attracting giant flocks of flamingos, and the Ngorongoro Crater, well known for its abundant wildlife. The final two sites for her visit were Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania (the archeological site of Louis and Mary Leakey); and Mt. Mikeno in Congo, where in 1959, American zoologist George Schaller had carried out a yearlong pioneering study of the mountain gorilla. At Olduvai Gorge, Fossey met Leakey and his wife while they were examining the area for hominid fossils. Leakey talked to Fossey about the work of Jane Goodall and the importance of long-term research of the great apes.

Although she had broken her ankle while visiting the Leakeys, by October 16, Fossey was staying in Walter Baumgartel’s small hotel in Uganda, the Travellers Rest. Baumgartel, an advocate of gorilla conservation, was among the first to see the benefits that tourism could bring to the area, and he introduced Fossey to Kenyan wildlife photographers Joan and Alan Root. The couple agreed to allow Fossey and Alexander to camp behind their own camp, and it was during these few days that Fossey first encountered wild mountain gorillas. After staying with friends in Rhodesia, Fossey returned home to Louisville to repay her loans. She published three articles in The Courier-Journal newspaper, detailing her visit to Africa.

During her African safari, Fossey met Alexie Forrester, the brother of an African she had been dating in Louisville; Fossey and Forrester later became engaged. In her later years Fossey became involved with National Geographic photographer Bob Campbell after a year of working together at Karisoke, with Campbell promising to leave his wife. Eventually the pair grew apart through her dedication to the gorillas and Karisoke, along with his need to work further afield and his marriage. In 1970, during her time in Cambridge to get her Ph.D., she discovered she was pregnant and got an abortion, later commenting that “you can’t be a cover girl for National Geographic Magazine and be pregnant.” Fossey had other relationships throughout the years and a love for children. Since Fossey would rescue any abused or abandoned animal she saw in Africa or near Karisoke, she acquired a menagerie in the camp, including a monkey who lived in her cabin, Kima, and a dog, Cindy. Fossey held Christmas parties every year for her researchers, staffers, and their families, and she developed a genuine friendship with Jane Goodall.

Finch Hatton was the second son and third child of Henry Finch-Hatton, 13th Earl of Winchilsea, by his wife, the former Anne “Nan” Codrington, daughter of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Henry Codrington. He was educated at Eton and Brasenose College, Oxford. At Eton, he was Captain of the cricket Eleven, Keeper of the Field and the Wall (two major sports played at Eton), President of the Prefects Society called Pop, and Secretary of the Music Society.

In 1910, after a trip to South Africa, he traveled to British East Africa and bought some land on the western side of the Great Rift Valley near what is now Eldoret. He turned over the investment to a partner and spent his time hunting. In Kenya, Finch Hatton was a close friend of The Hon. Berkeley Cole (1882-1925), an Anglo-Irish aristocrat, born into a prominent Ulster family, who had also settled in the colony. Cole was very well connected in Kenya, being the brother-in-law of Hugh Cholmondeley, 3rd Baron Delamere, the effective leader of the White settlers in the country.

Finch Hatton was not known to have had any serious romances before he met Baroness Blixen. They were introduced at the Muthaiga Club on 5 April 1918. Soon afterwards he was assigned to military service in Egypt. On his return to Kenya after the Armistice, he developed a close friendship with Blixen and her Swedish husband, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke. He left Africa again in 1920 but returned in 1922, investing in a land development company.

By this time, Karen Blixen had separated from her husband, and after their divorce in 1925, Finch Hatton moved into her house and began leading safaris for wealthy sportsmen. Among his clients were Marshall Field and The Prince of Wales. According to author Mary Lovell, in 1930 Finch Hatton began a love affair with Beryl Markham, who was working as a race-horse trainer in Nairobi and the surrounding area. This relationship inspired Markham to take up flying; later, she would become known as a pioneer flyer herself.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_of_Mains

The Douglases of Mains are a branch of the Clan Douglas, related to the Lords of Douglas through Archibald I, Lord of Douglas. The first Laird obtained land through marriage into the Galbraith family, which had been granted land in New Kilpatrick by Maldowen, Earl of Lennox. The family produced minor nobles in the Scottish court, perhaps the most notable of which was Malcolm Douglas, the 8th Laird, executed for treason in Edinburgh for conspiracy in the Raid of Ruthven. His second son, Robert Douglas, was made Viscount of Belhaven and is buried in Holyrood Abbey. The family intermarried in the Glasgow area, having links with the Campbells of Blythswood, with landed families across Scotland (including the Duke of Douglas) and more latterly the United Kingdom. The title became extinct in the 20th century; the last 33.5 acres (136,000 m2) of the estate (including the house) was sold to Dunbartonshire county and was subsequently used for the building of Douglas Academy in Milngavie prior to the death of the last heir (Lt-Col Archibald Vivian Campbell Douglas) in 1977.

    From Freedom’s Enemies:
The Tides Foundation deserves to be investigated under the RICO Act.

The Tides Foundation, which is not a foundation but a public charity, funnels money from guilt-ridden rich folks to left and far-left activist causes.

From the donor’s perspective, Tides serves as a beard. It hides the true donor-recipient relationship, which, if revealed, would be an embarrassment to the donor.

From the recipients perspective, Tides serves as a legal and tax-exempt umbrella for a wide variety of leftist, “social change” groups that could never hope to pass the IRS’s tests on their own.

Tides makes a ton of money in the process, taking an 8 percent fee on all monies transferred as pure profit. (The same profit as the evil oil companies).

The guys at ActivistCash.com have an in-depth dossier on the Tides Foundation.

Among the most unbelievable “projects” of the Tides Center is something called the Institute for Global Communications (http://www.igc.org). IGC is a clearinghouse for Leftist propagandists of all stripes, including living-wage advocates, anti-war protesters, slave-reparations hucksters, and a wide variety of extreme environmentalists.

The Foundation is also a member organization of the International Human Rights Funders Group, that is a network of more than seventy grant-makers who are solely dedicated to financing leftwing groups and causes.

Immediately after 9/11, the Tides formed a “9/11 Fund” to advocate a “peaceful national response.” That fund was replaced by the “Democratic Justice Fund,” financed by George Soros’ Open Society Institute. George Soros has given more than $7 million to Tides over the years. In a quid pro quo, the Tides Foundation is a major funder of the Shadow Party, a devious name for a George Soros’ nationwide network of several dozen unions, non-profit activist groups and think tanks whose agendas are ideologically to the left.

Tides and the Tides folks have established dozens of front organizations — all dedicated to funneling monies to the leftist of the left.

    Drummond Pike ~ President

Drummond Pike, the Foundation’s President, was born in San Rafael, California in 1948. He attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he majored in political science and gained notoriety as an anti-Viet Nam War protester. He was selected as campus representative to the Board of Regents during his senior year in 1969, where he was known as an aggressive student-power advocate.

In 1970, young activists from the Ford Foundation’s Center for Community Change set up The Youth Project in Washington, DC, with Pike as an associate director. It was a pass-through funding group (and Tides prototype) of rich young heirs who financed anti-capitalist activists.

Pike, who has been quoted saying, “I can hide any amount of money I want and you can’t find it,” is a very busy fellow. In addition to the Tides Foundation, Pike has established the Tides Center, eGrants.org and the Tsunami Fund. He also serves as President of Highwater, Inc., a real estate venture and historic preservation effort in the San Francisco Presidio National Park.

Pike and his wife live in an ocean-view home in affluent Mill Valley, just across the Golden Gate from San Francisco. They also own a million-dollar chalet near Donner Summit in Truckee, California.

    Melissa Lynn Bradley ~ Director

Melissa Lynn Bradley, a Marxist economist, is founder and president of the New Capitalist, which provides business development strategy and capitalization assistance to emerging and social entrepreneurs and claims an annual investor return rate of 25%.

She also founded The Entrepreneurial Development Institute — an international NGO focused on social change, economic development and community empowerment.

Melissa currently holds board positions with Georgetown University African American Advisory Board (Chair), LISTEN, Inc. (Co-Chair), Social Venture Network (Co-Chair, Finance), Greyston Foundation and Tides Foundation. She is a Founding Member of The Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership and serves on the Investment Review Committee for the Independent Press Association’s Revolving Loan Fund.

Bronfman is the Associate Dean of the Family Office Exchange Learning Center and a consultant and speaker on issues of wealth. Joanie serves on the boards of Tides Canada and the Threshold Foundation, where she was a founder of Threshold’s Social Justice Committee.

This is a project to reform the U.S. Government’s management of Individual Indian Trust Assets.

Ms. Cobell is a recipient of the 1997 “Genius Grant” from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation’s Fellowship Program. In 2005 she received a “Cultural Freedom Fellowship” from the Lannan Foundation, an award that cited her persistence in bringing to light the government’s “more than a century of government malfeasance and dishonesty” with the Indian Trust. In 2007 she was one of ten people given the AARP Impact Award (for making the world a better place) and in 2004 The National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development presented her with the Jay Silverheels Achievement Award.

Ms. Cobell’s professional, civic experience and expertise includes serving as Co-Chair of Native American Bank, NA., a Board Member for First Interstate Bank, a Trustee of the National Museum of the American Indian, as well as a member of other boards. Ms. Cobell served for thirteen years as the Treasurer for the Blackfeet Indian Nation in Montana.

She also supports the work of civil rights and youth organizations through her Donor Advised Fund at Tides Foundation and as Chair of the Board of Directors of Resourceful Women.

Currently, the Akonadi Foundation, including the Themis Fund, accepts full grant proposals by invitation only. They will not accept any unsolicited grant proposals. They already know where the money is going.

In June 2, 2007, Quinn Delaney will be throwing a time for Barack Hussein Obama at her home in Piedmont, CA. — the invitations come complete with instructions on how the invitee can contribute $4,600 to the Obama for President Campaign. These people are all about the money.

In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of the following organizations: the Discount Foundation, the Fund for State Strategies, the Tides Foundation, and the Tides Center.
